Meet The Team

Pastor Gary Whitney
Pastor Gary began serving at Middletown Baptist Church in March of 2020. Previously, he had a pulpit supply ministry in New England and served as the Associate Pastor for Chariho Southern Baptist Church. Prior to answering his call to a ministry, Pastor Gary worked in the mortgage and lending industry with nearly two decades of progressively responsible experience in sales and sales management roles. He has a Master of Divinity from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling also from Liberty University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Geneseo, where he had majored in Political Science and History. Gary is married to the love of his life, Lisa Whitney. They have four children, Siobhan, Philip, Matthew, and Elizabeth, and two grandchildren, Tony and Gabriella.
Their children are all grown, leaving Gary and Lisa to join the ranks of empty nesters. Lisa is a Registered Nurse presently employed by a major health insurer. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Nursing Education through Liberty University and has a BSN from Liberty University (she graduated Cum Laude!) and an Associates in Science from Community College of the Finger Lakes. Gary enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending quiet time with his wife and puppies. Lisa generally knits, crochets, or crafts while Gary thinks they are watching the movie together. They are both passionate followers of Jesus.

Tim McDowell Chairman of the Deacon Board

They have 2 daughters (and son-in-laws) and 4 grandchildren. Originally from West Groton, MA, he met his wife, Lori, while they were both serving in the US Navy and stationed in Brunswick, ME. They both retired after serving 20 and 22 years respectively. After retiring from the Navy, Lori received her Music Ed degree from the University of Rhode Island. They both are active in Music Ministry at Middletown as Tim leads the Praise Team and Lori plays piano.
